Started my career as a workshop helper in a small firm that carried out bespoke engineering machining, fabrication and welding, where I gained enough experience to get an apprenticeship as mechanical fitter/engineer at large carbon fibre production facility. I gained a wealth of knowledge and experience, developed my skills in fabrication, welding, mechanical fitting and installation as well as being part of large planned maintenance projects and routine maintenance services. Once qualified, I worked as a shift technician/engineer responding the technical emergencies within the plant. I always had a boyhood dream of following in my fathers footsteps into the merchant navy to become a marine engineer and so I decided to take the chance and enrolled in a cadetship. My previous experience helped to progress well with my studies and I won the Northern lighthouse Board prize for engineering which was great recognition of the effort and enthusiasm I have put in. I am currently in a mechanical technician position at a smelter located in the west Highlands of Scotland where I am continuing to develop my skills and experience within and industrial engineering environment. adhering to comprehensive HSE policy, working within 24/7 process where continuity of supply is essential.
