My Leisure journey started in 2018 as a Lifeguard for Bourne Leisure. I was only seasonal but I enjoyed my time that much I thought I’d give it a round 2. This time round I mixed it up a bit and got offered to give Sports Coaching a go alongside my Lifeguard job. This experience gave me so many key skills which I currently use today in my current role.Another season passed and my current manager at the time offered me the chance to progress, and doing so I became a Shift Leader. This role allowed me to look at Leisure from a different perspective. During this role I learned how to lead a team effectively alongside a lot of other key skills.And after another season, it was finally 2021. A big year for me. I was put on a Swimming Pool Technical Operator course which allowed me to learn more about plant rooms and swimming pools more in depth. I already had in-house knowledge after years of working in Leisure but this finally allowed me to be qualified for my knowledge.In July 2021 I was offered a bigger role in a completely different company, Away Resorts. With being with Haven for so long, and all the friends I made along the way, this was a very hard choice for me. However, you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take so I went for it. I moved over to Away Resorts as a Sports and Leisure assistant manager. I didn’t regret my decision in the slightest. I learnt so much in this role as I was now able to manage a team even more effectively.It is now 2023, and I am now the current Head of Department, Sports and Leisure Manager at the Cleethorpes Pearl Away Resorts Holiday Park. Everything I have learnt on my Leisure journey has led up to this point. I strive to be the best manager I possibly can and I will continue to do so. One big message I have is to never feel you are stuck in your position, there is always room to progress as long as you put in the hard work, anything is possible.
