Hartlepool

As the lead SHE Officer for Heerema UK I regulated the site safety standards and safe systems of work for all site activities across two yards and approx. six hundred employees over a three shift rotation. I overseen all commissioning activities, including pressure testing, high voltage testing and all permit to work systems, including confined space permits, rescue procedures and atmospheric testing. I ensured all load out operations were conducted in strict accordance with the company and PortAuthority procedures. I managed the onsite Heerema SHE team and Sub Contractor safety advisors. I was responsible for chairing all safety related meetings and ensuring site induction and other training was delivered.Heerema Fabrication Group (HFG), headquartered in Zwijndrecht, the Netherlands, is a leading engineering and fabrication contractor for large and complex structures to the offshore oil & gas and energy-related industry. North East England & Scotland

A Regional Safety Adviser covering the branch/site locations of Deborah Services Limited in the Northern Region.Duties included -Advising management on all aspects of the company safety management system and monitoring their compliance.Conducting regular health and safety inspections including comprehensive audits and reporting their findings to line management.Assisting Line Management in the development of health and safety matters.Advising the Line Management in developing and implementing safe systems of work and monitoring compliance.Advising management on "compliance" issues/record keeping and monitoring for compliance, (e.g. Registers, Permits etc).Investigation of selected, significant accidents and incidents as directed by the Group Safety Manager.Keeping up to date with all statutory regulations, guidance and technical developments pertaining to health and safety.Represent the Company on appropriate internal and external professional committees/groups such as the NASC and HSE meetings.Review any workplace/work activity method statements.Review any site/branch risk assessments and advise on specific 'site' risk assessments as appropriate.Assisting with the development of the Company safety management system and preparation for audits.Carrying out in-house training for DSL employees as and when required e.g. Working at Height package.Ensuring all locations are in compliance with the requirements of the company's 9001, 14001 and 18001 accreditations.Assisting the BSI and other third parties during their visits to company locations whilst undertaking their assessments of the standard of compliance.

North East

In February 2007 I was promoted to the position of QSHE Advisor for the North East region which in addition to my duties as area safety advisor as part of the QSHE team we also provided support to our facility services such as cleaning, catering and security to our projects across the North East region which included projects in Newcastle, Durham, Hull and Teesside.My role also required me to collate monthly statistics from each project to measure our ongoing performance which I then communicated to our senior management.The QSHE team also delivered professional in house training as well as IOSH accredited courses to our management teams to help assist them with their day to day management of health and safety. We also provided support to our projects when they were audited by the BSI to ensure that the business was in compliance with our accreditations, In the event that a non-conformance was identified I would develop a corrective action plan for that non conformance to ensure this issue was tracked and closed out. This information was then cascaded to other team members to ensure continuity across our business. The QSHE team also developed safety alert bulletins, which were distributed to all sites advising them of potential issues, which could affect our employees.The teams also carried out comprehensive audits at each of our projects to ensure compliance as per company procedures.The team held regular national meetings to discuss regional issues and also plan for future health and safety training requirements and safety campaigns for our employees.
