Graduate Mechanical Engineer looking for employment opportunities in the oil and gas or marine sectors.For over two years I worked as a Cleaner to help put myself through college and university, joining less than a month after I turned 16. This taught me a variety of skills, both about cleaning and how to effectively work with and without other people, and instilled a work ethic that remains to this day. Last summer I spent on a Civil Engineering Summer Placement with the construction firm Mclaughlin and Harvey's (McLH), on a £49m project building a deep water port in my home town, which was a very valuable insight into working practices and what life is like on site, whilst also teaching me how to use advanced measurement equipment to take precise readings and ensure a high level of accuracy and quality, whilst also keeping detailed records of the whole process.My favourite project I have completed in University so far has been the design and construction of a small crane, made only of parts cut from sheets of acrylic and some small servo motors for movement in the xyz directions and actuation of two pincers for lifting small boxes. Another project I enjoyed was a industrial visit to a local company in which they presented a problem they were having, and we had to come up with a few solutions in groups of 3 and then present these solutions to the company. In my case, we had to find a way to make their nitrogen generation system profitable after recent price rises, within a certain budget. I really enjoyed having to use everything I had learnt so far to research everything about this industry I could find and their problem in particular. After this and consulting a few companies in the field and arranging site visits, we managed to find a solution that was easily implementable, increased the efficiency of the system, and fell well below the budget which was a very rewarding feeling.I am looking for a career straight out of University, ideally in the field of Mechanical Engineering, however all forms of Engineering interest me and I would be willing to try my hand at anything that is thrown at me.
