Senior Engineer
CurrentAs part of the IED Dredge & Demo contract in Dublin port I was involved in the classification of contamination in the Alexandra Basin for contamination. Alexandra basin is being dredged to a deeper depth to allow the berthing of larger ships as required by the Dublin Port master plan. There are significant historical levels of contamination associated with activities in adjacent graving docks and Tara mines ship loader. There is strict environmental constraints associated with the project as Dublin Bay is designated UNESCO biosphere. My role was to classify the material using the available borehole information and develop a strategy to safely store the material. A design for a lined bunded cell was developed as part of this plan using stabilised and treated dredge material. I also ensured robust testing was carried out to ensure compliance with the environmental licence. I also organised bathymetric surveys at regular intervals to analyse dredge quantities.
