I have been a journalist since I graduated with my post-graduate Diploma in Applied Communications (Journalism) from the University of Galway (then UCG) in 1990. My background includes covering local politics, sports, music, the arts, and writing features for a regional newspaper for more than 22 years. I was also Sports Editor of a busy tabloid newspaper for over two years. From September 2020 to January 2023, I have worked as the Tourism Officer for Aras Eanna Ionad Ealaine on the beautiful Gaeltacht island of Inis Oirr, on the Aran Islands. I retrained in digital marketing and English teaching after leaving the newspaper industry in 2014, and currently edit and update a WordPress website in my current role. Over the past two years I have also re-learned the Irish language and been the social media manager (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) as well as the webmaster for the most westerly arts centre in Europe. In October 2018, I won the Irish Current Affairs Blogger of the Year award at the Tramline in Dublin. I have also set up and run the social media pages for a number of small businesses in the Galway area.
