Main duties assigned on the farm are day to day running of the farm including milking, herd management, grassland management, calving and machinery work. In charge of the running of the farm on a daily and weekly basis. In Grange I was involved in many aspects of both the farm and laboratories. The majority of the time on farm I was helping Teagasc Technicians with the handling of cattle including weighing, dosing, calving cows, animal health and calf health. During my time on the Farm I was left running one of the feed trails for two days which included individually feeding bullocks silage and meal. The trial was researching the performance of bullocks on home grown protein like peas and beans rather than feeding imported protein. In the laboratories I was based in the forage lab carrying out analysis on both grass and concentrate feeds. Many of the tests carried out on grass samples included Protein analysis using the Leco machine, Ash and Sugar testing. Skills - Working as part of a team, Good lab practice, Animal husbandry, knowledge of running a research trail and having the responsibility of running an important trail.

Apart of the harvest team on a large-scale tillage farm. Main duties carried out included the cleaning of grain stores for the preparation of harvest. During harvest main tasks included carting grain and the running of the grain stores. Other duties included working on the poultry farm. Work completed included the tipping of new chicks on the farm and the general running of the yard.Skills - Ability to work flexible hours, handling pressure with high valuable products, knowledge on cereal crops and crop markets abroad. Introduction into the poultry market, importance of bio-security.
