Team Limerick has been formed to provide a safe an open space to members of the LGBTQ Community in Limerick and the Mid-West of Ireland who sometimes struggle to find their place within sports teams. The club is open to anyone who identifies as LGBTQ, their friends, family and supporters. Some of the founding members of Team Limerick were involved in Limerick’s bid to host the 2018 Gay Games. The bid team successfully made it to the final stage of selection from a long list of seven cities to a short list of three alongside London and Paris who were chosen as the successful city.Team Limerick is committed to providing a space for LGBTQ people to be active and take part in sports and a member club of the Federation of Gay Games (FGG). In late 2014 Team Limerick submitted a bid to host the 2015 AGA along with Berlin, Sydney and Santiago.
