I was awarded the position as Research Trainee whilst completing my PhD in the Department of Human Genetics at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. The numerous academic development courses integrated into this program, including Conflict Management and Communication, New Values Workshop, Presentation Skills, and Project planning and evaluation, have equipped me to be both a team-player as well as an independent investigator. These skills have enabled me to successfully complete my doctoral studies and to contribute to my academic environment through lecturing and mentoring of junior students, and assistance of other, even senior students.
