I'm Cindy, a second-year Computer Science student at the University of Waterloo, specializing in Artificial Intelligence and minoring in Combinatorics and Optimization (whew, that's a mouthful). What this really means is that I love working with all sorts of technologies and I'm passionate about putting my problem-solving skills into innovative projects!I'd love to work on:♠ Machine learning, including its applications in city planning, natural language processing, and more!♠ Crafting full-stack applications that prioritize maintainability, scalability, and user experiences.♠ Anything else! I’m always on the lookout for opportunities to broaden my skill set. Fields that specifically interest me include bioinformatics, computational linguistics, and meteorology, but I’m open to exploring any field!During my two work terms at IRCC, I had the amazing experience of contributing to an intranet used by thousands of employees. On the front-end, I worked extensively with Angular, learning a lot about the principles of UI/UX design, including accessibility and user-centricity. Meanwhile, back-end tasks taught me the ins and outs of the Java Spring framework, SQL databases, and testing tools like JUnit. Achieving the highest student evaluation of “Outstanding” for both work terms, I’m confident that I can bring my full-stack skillset to my next software development role.Hackathons have been a huge part of my tech journey—I’ve attended eight so far, and counting! My highlights include:♣ Sparkhub, where we were awarded “Best Overall Project” among 200+ participants. I significantly contributed to the full-stack development of the project, using Dart in Flutter Web to build a web application that allows farmers markets and local businesses to selland buy food items.♣ SerenityHacks, where we created an AI-powered voice journal app aimed at improving mental health. I spearheaded the incorporation of four AI/ML algorithms and open-source tools, including VADER for sentiment analysis, Vokaturi for emotional analysis, and Facebook BART for summarization.I also have a long list of personal projects that I’ve worked on for weeks and months.
