About Cindy Dominguez

Currently responsible for cognitive engineering/human machine teaming project leadership, advocacy, and support of projects in multiple government sponsor domains. I have enjoyed embedding cognitive engineering work in multi-disciplinary teams in support of military warfighters and healthcare practitioners. Understanding how decisions are made in the real world, as opposed to in the laboratory, and making progress on supporting those decisions via combining cognitive engineering and innovative design (of user interfaces, training, and processes) is a primary goal that is sometimes under-rated in the engineering world. I would like to adjust that state of the art towards inclusion of CE and user-collaborative design and validation processes in systems that are developed and used by people at the sharp end of the spear. Healthcare research is a special passion, beginning with my 1997 dissertation, a field study on decision making in laparoscopic surgery.How to bring decades of research in human-automation interaction to bear on design of highly complex systems, supporting high stakes decisions and missions, is a strong and growing passion.
