I am in my third year of pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Calgary. I participated in an exchange program at the University of Utrecht in February 2023. This opportunity allowed me to experience a new culture, meet new people and broadened myself by seeing a different academic approach.Although I have more than a decade of experience in an array of customer service jobs, for the last 15 years my focus and passion has been in the care of seniors. My various roles included planning, executing, and evaluating recreation programs. I was responsible for ensuring the safety of seniors, assisting with medications, and adapting activities to meet their individual needs. Learning new skills enabled me to create quality programming while working within a limited budget. Working within fast paced and multitasking positions, I learned to manage my time well. Other duties included working within a team, problem solving, promoting events, reporting structures and supervision of staff. While senior care was emotionally rewarding, I decided to get a business degree to allow me to explore other passions. Courses that have found most interesting so far include Economics and Fundamentals of Operations & Supply Chain Management. Learning how to make things operate more efficiently is rewarding. As I explore new career designations, I will continue to bring my commitment to excelling in each new role I move into. I feel I have many positive transferrable skills that will benefit me as I embrace new roles.
