As an educational consultant, I work with clients on improving their teacher observation protocols, observer training, and observer assessment and monitoring. I specialize in master coding of observations, including videos and classroom artifacts. Another area of focus is teacher feedback for improving practice. Experience includes 23+ years at ETS and 10+ years as a middle school mathematics teacher. Am co-author of the book "Better Feedback for Better Teaching" and am the director of curriculum for The Danielson Group which advances the principles of the Framework for Teaching by partnering with educators and policy leaders at all levels to strengthen professional practices and promote education policies that elevate teacher development and leadership in service of student learning.

I'm also responsible for the the development of research project managers and research assistants/associates across centers. I'm involved with new product development and have recently worked on a training program for classroom observers based on my work on the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation MET Study.

I am responsible for investigating a wide range of factors related to learning and teaching, and the role assessment can play in supporting learning. A major research focus for the Center is helping teachers to blend formative assessment—assessment specifically designed to provide information in support of improved learning—into their everyday teaching.

My main responsibility was to conceptualize program content with others and to oversee the quality of the content in the materials and training of the Pathwise™ professional development programs. The major programs cover the areas of mentoring and induction, school leadership, teacher evaluation and quality, mathematics and language arts instruction, and standards-based student assessment, especially formative assessment to inform instruction. I served as a Director for the NBPTS performance assessments for advanced teacher certification, and as a Developer for the PACKETS Program, a set of performance-based activities being developed for students in grades 3-8.
