Entering My Third ActTwo short years ago, I was winding down from what was by far the WORST year of my life, 2022.In 2021 we were all trying to rebuild from the fallout of the pandemic. My husband & I lived in our hometown of Baltimore where he was a HS Teacher. I had been laid off from my job as Trade Show Manager, due to the pandemic. I then took a recruiting job with a wonderful firm. I began to feel like things were normalizing.But in 2022, I left the recruiting job when my old company called me back. What seemed at first to be a great move, turned into a nightmare. That July my sister passed away after her 5 year battle with cancer. In September our 11 year old Golden, Boone, also passed away, and in November I went into the hospital for hip replacement - I never returned to my job.I was 63. What the hell was I going to do next?In the blink of an eye, four months later, I was sitting on my deck in Boulder, CO., watching the sunset, glass of wine in hand, dog by my side, looking out over the Flatirons. I was a Conference Planner with CU Boulder!What transpired during those four months and led me to Colorado is a long story, and one that I will share, but the point is, there is always a story and always a next chapter. This stage of life for women, staring down that question of "what's next?", can be at once exciting and terrifying. It’s not always easy being the elders in the workforce. Sometimes we feel sidelined or invisible. Other times we feel our backgrounds and experiences are overlooked and under-valued. Our individual stories are becoming a distant memory.Any woman who has stuck it out in the workforce into her 60s and beyond, has plenty of stories to tell - the stories that paved the road to where we are now.
