ARTIST STATEMENT/BIOcindybuzadi.comCindy Buzádi is a Toronto-based artist who works with a variety of traditional and unconventional materials. She has a bachelor degree in Visual Art from University of Toronto and a bachelor degree of education from York University. She is represented by Gallery Catalyst and Norman Felix Gallery, both located in Toronto.The imagery deals with the struggle to give life meaning and living that life passionately and sincerely. It’s about overcoming obstacles and distractions like despair, angst, absurdity, alienation, boredom, pain, guilt and regret, through perseverance and conviction. The method is about working things out and discovering basic truths in the process.The overall compositional textures are products of continual reworking. Built up cumulative effects are created by dripping on, scraping off, tearing down, and repainting the surfaces again and again, capturing a passage of time rather than a moment. The resulting forms that emerge from the paintings vaguely suggest both landscapes and figures in an industrial/urban setting.
