About Fan Wu

Update: Fan's latest book, SOULS LEFT BEHIND (2024), a historical wartime novel set in France and China, recently came out in the UK. Here is an review by Asian Review of Books https://asianreviewofbooks.com/content/souls-left-behind-by-fan-wu/British writer Patrick Marnham calls the book “a remarkable achievement.” He says: “Souls Left Behind is a highly original historical novel that resurrects the story of the ‘Chinese Labour Corps’, the 140,000 labourers who were recruited in China in 1915 and shipped to France to work in the trenches on the Western Front……It is an imaginative tour de force. We see the Great War, and civilian France in the early twentieth century, from an entirely new perspective.” Writer, translator, book reviewer, trustee and executive at Mothers' Bridge of Love (MBL), cofounder and key leader at The Society of Heart's Delight (TSHD). Author of three critically acclaimed novels. FEBRUARY FLOWERS, Fan's debut novel, has been published in 10 languages and in twenty countries. Amy Tan praised BEAUTIFUL AS YESTERDAY, Fan's second novel, as “a story with intelligence, insight, and heart.” Her publications, besides being anthologized, translated, and nominated for the Pushcart Prize, have appeared in Granta, Ploughshares, The Missouri Review, The San Francisco Chronicle, and many other leading media. It'll be available in English in April, 2024. It has been chosen by leading Chinese publications as A Best Novel of the Month, A Best Book of the Season, and A Best Book of the Month by Reader's Choice. We see the Great War, and civilian France in the early twentieth century, from an entirely new perspective.” My short fiction, besides being anthologized, translated, and nominated for the Pushcart Prize, has appeared in Granta, Ploughshares, The Missouri Review, Asia Literary Review, and many other leading literary journals. I review books for The San Francisco Chronicle. I also write stories for children and have translated 3 books for the London-based Thames and Hudson.
