About Cindy Willmann

"I make us better." This is what I wrote when asked to create a personal vision statement as part of an executive team retreat a few years back. It's what I long to do for the teams I'm on and the organizations in which I serve. I love being a thought partner to a CEO or team leader to help them think through how to achieve their goals or mission. I have managed many large-scale cross-functional projects inclusively and collaboratively.Looking back, I remember it clearly – the “aha moment” in my Operations Management class in college. The professor talked about how training can lead to greater efficiency. I was hooked. I’ve always looked for new and better ways to do things in the organizations of which I’m a part. As a result, when changes I’ve identified are approved and end up being implemented, I’ve often been the one implementing them, training others and leading them through the change process. I’ve figured out that what I love to do is understand an organization’s strategic mission and look for the most effective ways to get there. I’ve also learned that the skills I have used as a project manager for many years – breaking down the whole in to parts and organizing the parts in the most effective way to achieve a goal – are scalable and I enjoy using those skills at the operational level, beyond the confines of distinct projects.Over the past decade I’ve had the privilege to work in a leadership roles in multiple non-profits in a professional and volunteer capacity. It’s in these roles I’ve learned that I work best at the organizational/strategic level where I can get a handle on the big picture and then figure out how the details can best be organized to support that big picture. I love finding and implementing tools and technology that support this, but only when they really add value. Sometimes a simple checklist is better than a complex system or tool.
