About Cinzia Volonté

Research activity in our laboratory is focused on studying the pathophysiological functions of purinergic (ionotropic P2X, metabotropic P2Y) and histaminergic (H1-H4) receptors in the central nervous system, with particular emphasis on the following main goals: pharmacological, molecular, functional characterization and dynamics of the receptors; analysis of the mechanisms and pathways triggered and/or modulated by purinergic and histaminergic ligands in neurons and glia during conditions of neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation. Particular attention is devoted to research on ALS and MS.Our mission is finding innovative solutions and paradigms for therapy in ALS and MS pathogenesis.
