Hoera! Handjes iedere ochtend 'Kwiek' in de lucht!! Dit is de tegel bij de entree van verpleeghuis Eerdbrand. Zo begin ik iedere 'assistent Welzijn' dienst meteen vrolijk actief.Om vervolgens op afdeling de Haven (ZZP5/psychogeriatrie) mijn handen te laten wapperen: het verzorgen van ontbijt, koffie-met-koekje en lunch op de gezamenlijke woonkamer. Prachtig werk, mooie indringende momenten met de 12 bewoners en dankbaar voor collega's die de tijd vrijmaken om me snel en goed in te werken!

Volunteering at Hogar San MathildaIn this home about 80 youngsters with special capabilities and needs are the residents. Some do walk, some are mobile in specially tweaked wheelchairs and some of the youngsters spend their days and nights in their beds.Little Jermey knows exactly how to operate the volunteers smart phones. Never fails to find his favorite song:'Despacito'. Youtubing he rocks from his wheel chair, grooving and singing along every word - only we can't hear him as he can't talk.Señor Salvador loves 'Ataque de Besos' - Kisses attack, he has an double sized head, so has an extra large pillow he likes to get fluffed up. You are awarded with an adorable smile in his eyes.Tiny Precious Ruth is his neighbor, all sides of her bed are protected with thick layers foam. She has the crystal syndrome, meaning easily breaking her bones. Upon till now, there was not one time that i saw her without any cast on one part of her body. She loves to clap your hand and be song to.Carmen loves 'row, row, row, your boat', so i use that song to train her arms and legs. And she sort of giggles when you pull funny faces to her.Dearest Sweet Rosa - she always comes running to you with her wild, firm hug - challenge there is to ensure you are still able to breath and get her to 'un-Hug'. She loves to tell about her school and get hand massages.

Hogar Jesus Divino is a home to about 70 abandoned children, in the age from 0 to 7 years old. As mama voluntaria - volunteer mom, i work at the groups 0-1 or 1-2 years old. The work is to help out the professional care taker, strong ladies on shifts from 8.00 am to 20.00 pm on a group of 6 to 7 babies. The babies are so cute and it is heart-breaking to hear their stories and realizing how much they miss out on. So all you can do is give mr Penguino an extra hug. He was left on the stairs of a church, a few days old. And give an extra kiss to Milagros, who with 3 days old was found behind the wheels of a car. That was in the month of Señor de Milagros, and as it was a wonder she was found by a attentive passerby - the Hogar named her Milagros (meaning - wonder).For me, it lights up an entire week when there is good news:Like 'El Crocodilo', who's mom has mental problems and his dad died of TBC, is been adapted by his aunt. He went HOME! on his first birthday. And i could not stop smiling, seeing the photos of the 3 years old 'Princess', of her first months living at her new home with her loving parents who adapted her. Her in the supermarket. In her own! Pink! Girlish! bedroom. And lot's of photos of her smiling, and hugging her grandma and her parents!On a practical note:Thank God for Vanish - as some of the little ones are not appreciating the Peruvian Gastronomy (yet). The transition from bottle to solid food... it can be an interesting one...!
