Soon after arriving on Curacao in October 2009 the lionfish took over the entire reef, consuming immense amounts of small fish and reproducing at an alarming rate. Within a year later, LET officially stepped in as a group of divers dedicated to the eradication of the invasive species and are now known as the most effective lionfish eradication organization in and around the Caribbean.LET is acknowledged as the official team of Curacao and its members are the only ones with permission by the government to use spears for the process. All further actions taken by the government goes in correspondence with LET, which will also be in charge of training and organizing over 300 new divers for the further control of the lionfish.LET is known for spreading awareness by updating their social media, sharing valid data, distributing their catch to individuals as well as restaurants and hotels, and organizing international lionfish derbies that remove over a thousand lionfish a day. SEAVAL Diving builds state-of-the-art scuba gear for certified divers who want more freedom under water with improved safety features and specializes in the creation of proper and safe tools for the efficient eradication of the lionfish.
