ArcActive Limited is an award winning company who specializes in research and developing, making new batteries. Whilst I was looking for permanent and more suitable employment I took on a temporary position at ArcActive. My primary role was to support the production line internally and externally through preparing the fabric, lead and paste plate samples for quality control testing. After a short few weeks my superiors trusted me to work on different machines and instruments to test samples and assist the research and development team to conduct experiments on the final samples.My role required accurate record keeping, relating to quantities, measurements and characteristics of raw materials and product samples. I was always willing to help in any way needed, such as the cleaning, tidying and storage tasks to ensure the factory and laboratory environment are maintained safe and clean.

EMS Telecoms is a small contracting company doing FTTH (Fibre-To-The-Home) infrastructure projects for their main client Vumatel. After EMS approached me to join their team, my first priority was setting up a Project management office, which included initiating and implementing new process for communication platforms, procurement, health and safety as well as project programming to ensure deadlines are met and quality upheld. My role included coordinating optic fibre network roll out projects from planning, initiating through to handover. I was involved in stakeholder management and maintaining good business relationships with key clients, engaging new clients and negotiating new contracts.We grew the company to be one of 3 preferred civil optic fibre infrastructure installations companies in the country. I was leading a team of 10 permanent staff and 18 sub-contractors with an average of 30 team members each.

Vumatel is a multiple award winning company who is leading the South African Fibre-To-The- Home infrastructure networks market as they built their own network. They used the latest technologies the world has to offer and has a very unique quality network roll out. As part of a project management office, my role was leading a team of 12 with 22 contractors to complete over 200 fibre optic networks. I was involved in the process from technical planning approvals, roll out schedules to implementations. Reporting daily on project forecasts, progress and project completions using project progress software. I was privileged to have developed and implemented the project build plan process and was part of the training team to upskill the company resources internally as well as externally. Mentoring, training and development was part of our company culture and played a major role in the company’s success.
