Drafting, Documentation and Design assist with New Product Develpment

Using my experience to bring a new project to fruition...

I manage the tools with my overseas vendors as well as the molding. I design products as well as redesign existing products for manufacturing. Working with NX I design those products, production fixtures and do preliminary tool design for plastic molds. I travel when necessary to the orient to trouble shoot our products and processes. I work with our vendors on the DFM for the products as well as any ECN that occure after the first artical are recieved.I also create prototypes with the use of 3D printer, as well as fabrication from scratch. These are for Proof of concept, tradeshows and in-house evaluation.

Prototype development for production analysis which often includes several generations and even re-design and re-examinations of the process required for production. I was in charge of designing all the tools for the El Cajon Facility. I designed tooling for several different process including Chemical Milling, turning, Welding, Assembly and Milling fixtures. Our customer base includes P&W, Rolls Royce, and General Electric. I manage the design from concept meeting with the customers; thru the process development done by the ME’s, coordinating with either our in house tool makers or contracted vendors. I am also responsible for verification of the tooling prior to release. I also supervised one tools designer and several interns assigned at different times.

With the use of customer supplied models and drawings we create the tooling for all the operations need to create the different components. These include laser fixtures, lathe tooling, heat treat fixtures, CNC fixturing as well as manual and CMM’s. This position also included trouble shooting the tools during first article inspection and when the tool did not run as expected. We also modified existing fixture designs when the customer’s part or spec changes. Followed the design through build, certifications and during the production run.

UG Designer - ATO UG DesignerI started in the Air Foils group but because of me advanced UG Skills I was transferred to the ATO Group to do the 3D modeling for the next generation gas- alternative fuels power generator. I would develop the different concepts in full 3D models, which better allowed them to visualize the problems and advantages of the concepts. These models were also used for airflow analysis and FEA. These models were also used with Teamcenter Visualization to evaluate the best methods of the different configurations. During my time with the ATO group, we modeled and evaluated (from intake nozzle to the exhaust frame) over 86 different and unique assemblies. This does not include the mix and match of the different fixtures from one or two of the different frames and even evaluation of our competitors’ versions taken from tech magazines and/or publicity web sites.

With the engineers from both Northrop Grumman and the military, we developed a top-secret sub for the navy as well as the computer testing of the mechanics of different areas of that Sub. We were to develop the mechanisms for the dive planes and couplings t the parent sub. We also did ergonomics for the team who would be using it. CONTRACT

The Development and Packaging for a new generation HVAC including the ductwork, tubing and “A” and “B” side styling. The Packaging of all electronics and the through the firewall connections. Worked with the customer to manage the different problems associated with integrating a new design into a product of existing components, and standards. Manufacturing engineer for the tooling and fixtures, the sheet metal and the blow-molded ductwork (including the secondary operation fixtures and mechanisms). (UG 18, Mechanisms, Free Form, WAVE, MS Project, MS Office)

Training and Mentoring for GM Mid/LUX and Saturn division (Unigraphics) in the use of Sketcher, Free Form and Assemblies as well as advanced modeling techniques. On the implementation team for corporate wide database (IMAN)Senior Designer in Criteria (Human factors and design criteria and standards) involved in the checking and verification of components and standards for the occupants, other business teams and the overall integrity of the vehicle.Senior Interior Designer entailed the use of studio Class “A” surfaces and their interface with the structural and other molded interior components. “B” side design, which included the attachments and space requirements for the wiring, ductwork and the electronics. The “A” side included the clean up of any and all the studio surfaces into useable 3d SOLID components. The guiding of entry-level engineers in the modeling data.Senior Exterior Body Designer entailed receiving the data from studio in its raw form and “CLEANING” it up to reflect the quality required by an “A” Surfaced panel. Development of these surfaces into 3D solid components. Senior Designer in Structures (Body in White) Involved working with engineers, vendors and GM’s own “Body in design” program (for sheet metal design) to create a sound and safe space frame. Lead Rear Hatch designer which included the release mechanism, and associated safeguards. Passenger and rear door release and verification of movement through use of UG mechanisms. The Verification of the structural integrity and tooling throughout the design process.
