Things I learned running CJs Fruit Place when I was 10.You can sell a ton more fruit when your display is full and overflowing- “Pile it high, and watch it fly!” Sold my first underripe watermelon to a customer who returned it- OUCH. “Dad, the watermelons you grow taste bad and have no color, please grow some new ones.” #silence- my first grower relations experience.Cut my first volume deals - 1 bag for $2, 2 for $3, 5 for $5- “don’t get greedy. Move that fruit!”Learned that flavor matters- “pick your best tasting fruit and lead with that.”1st time someone stole from me- “Take care of the things you cannot afford to lose.”Learned that customers who stay longer buy more. “CJ, wet the ground down so customers don’t breath in dust” - “overall customer transaction experience matters.”
