During COVID I joined a group of local volunteers to set up a community organisation to connect those in need of help with those who could provide support. I developed an online form and linked spreadsheet to log requests and record those able to assist; I answered calls and messages to log those in need and those in need of assistance; I coordinated with other members of the admin team on developing processes and editing documentation for coordinating and communicating with local residents; I attended trustee planning meetings with the local authority and church representatives; I set up a google map for a light trail event around the community; I developed a nature trail for the local community to get out and explore the local area.

Project Officer on the CIRCLE programme, which aimed to develop the skills and research output of early career African researchers in the field of climate change and its local impacts on development:https://www.acu.ac.uk/our-work/projects-and-programmes/circle/In addition to project management and administrative responsibilities, my role in the Climate Impacts Research Capacity and Leadership Enhancement (CIRCLE) team involved taking a lead in developing and implementing the monitoring and evaluation framework for the programme. This included designing, delivering and analysing the results of surveys for applicants for the fellowship and a counterfactual group for comparison. The programme team also conducted interviews with CIRCLE representatives, which was combined with the quantitative analysis and a review of the sector to inform a report and workshop, delivered in partnership with the British Academy, on the provision of research support for early career academic staff and researchers at HEIs in Africa. I was also a member of the ACU’s internal Monitoring & Evaluation team, providing M&E guidance, advice and support across the ACU’s portfolio of projects and programmes.

As Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at INASP I was part of a small team, responsible for evaluation, learning and communication across INASP’s programme areas. I joined the team at the initiation of a new phase of work at INASP, which meant taking a key role in supporting INASP’s approach to monitoring and evaluation and in the development of indicators and methodologies to meeting reporting requirements. I was responsible for identifying learning, developing performance indicators and ensuring reporting requirements are met for INASP’s programmes.My role involved: implementation and analysis of a major study on the publishing sector in Bangladesh; design of evaluations and regular monitoring of INASP’s pilot projects, including a poster communicating early findings and the process from one pilot, to be presented at a conference; use of Survey Monkey to design and implement pre and post assessments to monitor learning of key concepts from INASP’s capacity building workshops; collation of survey results and analysis; reporting to staff on the outcomes of assessments to inform future workshops and assessments; design of follow up M&E to investigate the outcomes of this training; monitoring the effectiveness of INASP’s social media campaigns through Google analytics and other online monitoring tools; support on development of INASP’s logframe indicators and regular reporting on progress in meeting them; working with staff members to identify case studies and qualitative feedback for publication via the website and regular reporting to donors; working with partners in developing countries to develop and implement monitoring and evaluation tools; designing data visualisations to communicate with various audiences.

Lead consultant for the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) Phase of the Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction Study for the IFRC. My work included reviewing literature and methodology design for the LAC zone; 7.5 weeks fieldwork, conducting workshops in 19 communities in Colombia and Guatemala in partnership with the Red Cross; supervision of data collation and analysis; completion of a report on the characteristics of a safe and resilient community in the LAC zone; presentation of the report to the IFRC at their Geneva HQ.
