About Claire Jensen
I am a PhD student in Earth and Space Sciences at the University of Washington working with Michalea King and Ian Joughin at the Applied Physics Laboratory. I study Greenland glacier and ice sheet dynamics and am funded by the Program on Climate Change Fellowship.I graduated cum laude from Amherst College in 2024, where I completed a senior thesis with Nicholas Holschuh analyzing past and present wind scour at Dome A, Antarctica for finding the oldest ice. I also researched automated deep learning methods for annotation and interpretation of polar radar imagery with UMBC's Institute for Harnessing Data and Model Revolution in the Polar Regions (iHARP).In addition to my research I was software engineering intern at Google for three summers, working on low-level software development in the Linux Kernel and Kubernetes, as well as frontend development on Earth Engine.Outside of my work, I am a mentor to aspiring students in STEM, through my previous work as a brand ambassador at Girls Inc. and instructor at InspiritAI. I am involved in DEI work within geoscience and computer science and I am committed to improving access to STEM for underrepresented groups.
