I have practiced condominium law and dispute resolution in Toronto since 2003 and was thrilled to launch Common Ground Condo Law in January 2020.I help condominium boards and managers navigate tricky situations by giving practical, economical solutions, often on a same-day basis. Good advice and sound strategies are the best assurance of a quick, lasting and economical solution to almost any condominium problem. When disputes aren't nipped in the bud, I counsel condominium corporations and provide effective representation in the Superior Court of Justice and various tribunals in a wide variety of matters, including debt recovery, construction lien and deficiency cases and condo rule enforcement cases.I also act for condo corporations in private mediation and arbitration proceedings under the Condo Act in disputes over reciprocal agreements and “people, pets and parking” issues. I serve as a neutral arbitrator for any type of condo dispute.Because knowledge is critical for condominiums to function effectively, I am deeply involved in condo industry associations and support their educational programs and initiatives. After launching and publishing the award-winning Ontario Condo Law Blog from 2008 to 2019, I continue my trademark hard-hitting commentary and deep insight into the realities and coming trends in condo land. I also continue to write and lecture on condo law and civil litigation topics at seminars, conferences and courses for legal professionals and condominium managers, directors and owners.I assisted the Ontario Government's review of the Condo Act from 2012 to 2014 by sitting on its working groups and an expert panel, and advocated meaningful law reform and effective manager regulation that came true with Bill 106, the Protecting Condominium Owners Act, 2015. Much work still needs to be done (especially on the awful new condo forms), so I'll keep recommending improvements.Launching Common Ground Condo Law in 2020 was the natural evolution of my 20-year condo law practice and reflects my vision to deliver more responsive legal services for condominium corporations across Ontario. I'm a life-long technology geek, so naturally I'm a big fan and advocate of virtual unit owners' meetings. I chaired over 100 virtual meetings from March 2020-2022, on top of over 1,000 traditional owners' meetings over my career. I've developed a strong reputation for being an effective, responsive and inclusive meeting chair.
