I am a business management leader with over three decades of broad experience, working for fantastic companies in the Auto Industry, Telecoms, IT, Design Consultancy and Civil Engineering Construction and this mix of roles has given me unique insights and helped me develop my own bid management approach which transcends project, industry, client and company.After leaving school at sixteen to train as an automotive technician - I happily admit to a healthy interest in cars - I primarily moved around the auto industry for a few years, opening the door to a sales role with BT. Once there, I was promptly identified and developed as part of their rising talent pool, moving into a bid management role in my second year and staying within that practice for the rest of my tenure. Here I learned and refined my craft as a work-winning professional in this highly successful managed IT services business, leading on outsourcing and complex managed service deals with top tier clients from across the globe. It was also while at BT that I first served in the Royal Navy Reserve before leaving to replace that co-curricular activity with that of higher education, graduating in 2014 from the Management School at Queens University Belfast with BA (Hons) in Management & Business Studies.Ever keen to embrace a new challenge and having established the civil engineering industry as one that valued professional bid management, I was fortunate enough in 2019 to join the Major Pursuits Team with global consulting giant AECOM where I found a new dimension to my profession, working with, once again, top tier clients on fascinating projects around the world, but developing a different set of techniques and approaches.When I came across an opportunity to join Farrans Construction in 2021, after over two decades of working with large multi-national firms, it felt like a good time to pivot to a smaller employer, albeit one that is a vital part of the CRH global family of companies. Not too big, not too small, this was just right. What I have found is a very healthy management style and a culture of positivity and getting the job done. This has meant that I have the chance to double-down on my now mature bid management techniques. The range of projects and sense of accomplishment when seeing a project through from the very earliest stage until it appears in the real world is hugely rewarding and motivates me every day to do my best for my colleagues and clients as we deliver truly transformational civil engineering solutions across the UK & Ireland.
