About Christina Jordan
I learned about chemical engineering during a lecture by my beloved chemistry teacher. I was absolutely fascinated that could be a field of study that combines my two great loves: baking and engineering. Just think about it: using chemistry to create things that transform and sustain life with a little bit of “magic” and a lot of math? How awesome is that?! My love for baking is more than creating delicious treats. Baking, to me, is an art form that utilizes science so that I can create goods that express my empathy for others. Preparing food for others is how I connect with people on a fundamental level. It's a means of nurturing not just their bodies but their souls as well. My experience in baking has proven the role food has in fostering a sense of care and community. For this reason, I plan to study Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, get a world-renowned engineering degree, and then build a career developing products that benefit humanity. Why? For people like me who have restrictive food allergies, grocery options are limited. I want to learn about metabolic processes to develop solutions for this issue. I aspire to drive scholarly research and to help people around the world feel more secure about the foods they eat.

CSOs say, "We don't just hope it happens, we make it happen." CSOs lead Take Action projects. My first Take Action project was the GIA Garden, which resulted in an invitation to join the CSO Leadership Council. Since then, my role on the Leadership Council has grown. I have been invited by the ScienceATL leadership to attend special events and to lead the fall/spring training sessions for more than 100 new CSOs each year on their path to adopting their own Take Action projects. Because I participated in CSO Leadership, I was awarded CSO of the Year in 2023.

The Atlanta Science Festival is an annual celebration of the world-class learning and STEM career opportunities in metro Atlanta, featuring 150 engaging events for curious kids and adults at venues all across the region. It is sponsored by ScienceATL, which also happens to be the sponsor of the Chief Science Officer program Atlanta chapter. As an ambassador, I helped direct more than 25,000 attendees to the booths and activities set up in and around the city of Atlanta. I also encouraged participation by completing and hashtagging self-guided ASF activities like outdoor city park scavenger hunts.

Research Assistant
By participating in the BridgeUp research program at Georgia Tech, I was able to learn how to conduct research in human-computer interaction from the perspective of faculty and students at the Georgia Tech College of Computing. As a research assistant, I used HCI simulations to provide and collect data that contributed to the groundbreaking work they were doing. The contributions I had in each of the professors' labs will be published in their next research update.
