Sobrato Philanthropies partners with communities to meet immediate needs, address systemic barriers, and pursue social justice to build a more equitable and sustainable world. Guided by the business philosophy and personal values of the Sobrato family, three generations engage in grantmaking, advocacy, impact investing, and collaborative efforts to create impact locally and around the world. Sobrato Philanthropies leverages the combined power of multiple giving vehicles, including the Sobrato Family Foundation, which has played a dynamic role in the emergence and growth of a thriving Silicon Valley for decades.

Inspired by the legacy of David and Lucile Packard, the Packard Foundation works with people and communities to create enduring solutions for just societies and a healthy, resilient natural world.Directly supported the President and CEO with grantmaking, special projects, speaking engagements, research, and communication connected to the President’s Office and the foundation at large. Collaborated with senior leadership, including the Board of Trustees, to support the advancement of key Foundation priorities. Grantmaking supported organizations and projects based both within and outside of the U.S., including president and board directed discretionary grants, grants supporting the philanthropic infrastructure, initial COVID-19 response grants, and initial justice and equity grants following the racial reckoning in 2020. Total investments ranged between $8-$30 million.

Through community, play, and rigorous exploration, Learn Fresh leverages students' passion for sports and entertainment to inspire their STEM and social-emotional learning. Through its work, Learn Fresh explicitly strives to reach students who have historically been underrepresented in STEM fields, specifically girls, Black and brown students, and those living in low-income communities. The organization sees brilliance and limitless possibility in every student, and aims to provide resources and support to these students and their educators so that they may be inspired to learn and grow. Programs include NBA Math Hoops, MLB Players STEM League, STEM Goals, the Youth Assist Tracker Challenge, and the Learn Fresh Fellowship for Culturally Inclusive Education.

Founded in 2015, to help solve some of society’s toughest challenges — from eradicating disease and improving education, to addressing the needs of local communities, CZI’s mission is to build a more inclusive, just, and healthy future for everyone.Provided consultation to education team in order to support an emerging whole child strategy specifically related to local community school models. Completed a scan of Bay Area community school efforts, including site visits, stakeholder conversations, and regional/national expert interviews. Compiled and presented final report summarizing current needs, challenges, opportunities, and recommendations for investment and support.

Innovate Foundation supported innovative education and youth development models focused on closing the achievement gap between low-income students and their more affluent peers. Identified and supported 30-35 nonprofit grantees through various stages of partnership, including due diligence, investment process, goal development with corresponding metrics, ongoing check-ins, and reporting. Networked with other funders to discuss best practices, learn about prospects, share diligence, and co-invest. Developed and maintained customized database to track investments, including funding stage and amount, ongoing contact and correspondence, and shared materials. Served as the primary representative of the Foundation with grantees and within the larger community.

Lynda Cannon Greene Consulting provided strategy and program design services to nonprofits, public institutions, and businesses, specializing in helping corporations achieve their philanthropic goals. Provided support with the implementation of Futurelab, a signature philanthropic program advancing science education for students in South San Francisco Unified School District. Advised on program branding and messaging as well as budget development for all program components. Served as a liaison between the corporation and the school district. Assisted with plans to engage corporate employees in several program components, including teacher professional development, student field trips, a middle school science competition, a high school biotech program, and a college scholarship initiative.

Applied Materials and the Applied Materials Foundation focus charitable giving in the areas of education, civic engagement, the environment, arts and culture. Provided leadership and consultation for the Foundation on its education philanthropy in Santa Clara, Austin, TX, and other locations in the United States that were of interest. Provided support, analysis, and evaluation of the Foundation’s overall grant effectiveness. Supported communications related to the Foundation’s funding for education activities and outcomes.

Summer Search empowers young people to discover their purpose through mentoring, summer experiential learning, and by providing support during the critical transition from high school to postsecondary education through to launching a fulfilling career.Served as the primary ambassador and champion of the program with key stakeholders, effectively conveying the mission and vision to donors, students, alumni, board members, and community partners. Co-led development effort including active solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship of funders, as well as execution of annual fundraising dinner, resulting in ~200% increase in revenue growth. Developed and implemented a site-specific strategic plan, including growth of population served by nearly 50%. Fostered the high-performance and collaboration of local Silicon Valley team along with a larger Bay Area regional team. Partnered with the national leadership team and board of directors to ensure high-quality delivery of programs and achievement of outcomes, execute sound fiscal management, and increase board engagement – including growing board size by 60%.

Located in the urban, low-income community of eastside Redwood City, Taft was the first in the District to become a Community School. Its integrated focus led to improvement from one of the lowest achieving schools to among the top within California’s similar schools. Led all non-academic student and family programs and services on an elementary school campus. Responsibilities included: partnering with principal to integrate academic and non-academic activities using a whole child approach; supervising, supporting, and providing programmatic direction to child and family service providers; outreach and collaboration with staff, families, and community members to identify needs and develop programming; resource development and evaluation, including fundraising, data collection, and regular monitoring and reporting to district leaders, funders, and board trustees. Grew student achievement from a 3 out of 10 on a similar schools ranking to a 10 out of 10; similarly increased achievement from 624 out of 1000 on California’s measure of academic progress to 789.

FCMHP coordinated the delivery of mental health services for thousands of children and their families, served by San Francisco's child welfare system. This population included children and youth, birth to 18, who had been removed from the family home or were at risk for out-of-home placement.Provided direct service including short-term bridge therapy and long-term treatment to children and adolescents. Completed comprehensive assessments that determined referrals to appropriate levels of care. Collaborated with relevant stakeholders, including child protective services, foster care providers, school staff, and medical personnel. Linked youth to services offered by the larger system of care. Represented clinic at department meetings, trainings, and conferences.
