Led the design of an integrated scanner assembly that could be leveraged across three products (first for HP). Currently being released on the HP Laserjet 770MFP. Worked with multiple engine vendors to design a common interface. HP’s first plastic enterprise class A3 scanner with the strength of a steel tub supported at three points. Implemented hot plate welding to increase strength and reduce squeaking common with screwed together parts. First all plastic scanner in this market and a 25% cost reduction over the previous generation of products.Provided design consultation on the integrated scanner assemblies on HP’s Pagewide 780 and 770 color MFPs. Worked with engineers on overall integration, part design, drawings, and testing.Led the initial mechanical design of the HP Laserjet M630 A4 MFP integrated scanner assembly. Worked with ID to implement a new design language. Provided consultation to the engine team to improve weak control panel mount.Went beyond job scope to develop a proto of a high capacity A3 input stand for the HP 9040/9050MFP. This became a product and was a requirement for a multi million dollar deal. Led the initial design of a high capacity A4 input device for the HP 9040/9050. Lead CPE engineer for the integrated scanner assembly across all of HP’s active laserjet A3 MFPs (9000MFP, 9500MFP, 9040/9050MFP 6040/6030MFP, M775, M725, M880, M830).Performed data analysis looking for trends in field failures. Perform deep dive of data to identify possible root causes. Reviewed returned units to find root cause of failures. Created countermeasures for issues, performed ROI on implementation. Designed and manufactured countermeasures working with tech marketing, Quality, regulatory, and our manufacturing partners.Performed ongoing cost reductions across all platforms meeting or exceeding all internal goals.

Led the initial mechanical design of HP’s first in-house designed enterprise class A3 integrated scanner assemblies on the M775, M725, M880, and M830 products. Worked with ID, EE’s, marketing, and HP’s Asset team to define the product requirements. Performed detailed design work of plastic and sheet metal parts. Worked with US and Asian vendors to proto parts.Using HP scan and ADF assets along with a creative design, these products achieved more than a 50% cost reduction over the previous generation.

Supported the integrated scanner assembly on the HP Laserjet 900MFP, 9500MFP, and CM800MFP. Worked with electrical engineers to define shielding for cable routing and to design and implement countermeasures to pass HP’s requirements. Worked with firmware to root cause and implement a fix for excessive skew jams on the product. Led design reviews to improve robustness on the scan and ADF systems. Led the mechanical development of the integrated scanner assembly on the HP Laserjet 9040/9050MFP and the 6040/6030MFP with our asian OEM partners. Managed the schedules, product specifications, ID requirements, electrical space/cabling requirements, and testing of the product. Ensured product success across multiple asian partners as well as multiple internal partners.Went beyond job scope to develop a proto mockup of a convenience print MFP, an A4 size engine with an A3 scanner. Designed an all plastic low cost A3 scan tub able to be supported by three points. Member of HP’s company wide CAD/FEA consolidation team.

Design Development Engineer contracting to Hewlett Packard. Job assignments include specifying product performance, defining test plans, communicating test results, solving mechanical and print/image quality issues, design of sheet metal and plastic parts, and verifying overall mechanical and print/image quality performance. This transitioned into a full time job within HP.

Design engineer focusing on concrete saws and various other types of concrete finishing equipment. Headed up design projects from marketing and sales analysis, design, manufacturability, to post manufacturing support. Test engineer directly in charge of collecting field data, vibration surveys, failure analysis, duty cycles, and general prototype testing. Duties included, review of test requirements, software programming, instrumentation setup, data collection, data reduction, and results presentation. Equipment used inclued strain gages, accelerometers, thermocouples, relays, actuators, National Instruments DAQ hardware, Labview software,and Visual Basic.Engineer assisting in the setting up and converting of entire department from ProEngineer/Intralink to Solidworks and PDMWorks. Several programs were written in VB to integrate our ECR/ECO process, Solidworks, PDMWorks, and our MRP system.
