Many people here have acclimated to the fact that I am in Quebec now. If you remember, my emigration was extremely abrupt and was the result of a very rare crime: erotomanic stalking of a non-celebrity stranger by a man. I went to undergrad with this man, but I don’t remember meeting him once. It gets more wild, though. At the beginning of the pandemic, Canada changed their border policy to allow me to make an asylum claim —from the US. Of course I’ve also made some hilarious, Emily-in-Paris blunders with my integration in Québec as well. My immigration lawyer has advised me not to take my story public until after I have residency. This is because reporters tend to truncate information for the flow of a story, which could create problems with my immigration case. Luckily, I am a strong writer and can tell my own story. However, I need to control my audience as I am a very controversial immigrant. It seems reasonable to protect my story by asking a $4 USD buy-in. Obviously, haters don’t want to spend that kind of (nominal) money on being mean. People prefer to be mean for free. The added benefit is that it helps me save up for veterinary school at Université de Montréal. It’s not expensive by US standards, but I still don’t have money for it. My goal is about 300! I occasionally consult on dog training. In the past, this branch of my life has involved training my own assistance dog, dog walking, pet sitting, etc. I have studied and apply the « Bond-Based Choice Teaching » approach pioneered by Canine Assistants in most cases. However, I use positive conditioning when the situation merits it. I have also invented an AAC for companion animals that allows a pidgin to form between the handler and the companion animal. I spend a lot of time in professional development reading peer-reviewed literature on dog cognition, socialization, training, and husbandry.
