Hi, I'm Charlie, I work at Ordinary Toucan as Lead Illustrator but I also do 2D animation, design, typesetting, film production and a bunch of other creative tasks. I’ve been with OT for a number of years and I thoroughly enjoy the wide variety of creative roles I’m required to take on. I’ve worked for +15 years in predominately the health, well-being and educational markets (including universities, schools and interfaith groups), on a wide variety of creative projects.I have extensive experience with Adobe Illustrator but do most of my illustrations in Procreate. My style is youthful, whimsical and full of colour and texture. I Illustrate mostly for web and animation but have created printed items and in 2021 I co-wrote and illustrated a book about unity for a schools project. I’ve single handedly created a number of 2D animations for clients and have experience with Adobe After Effects as well as frame by frame in Procreate. Making things move is a lot of fun and I love working out how to add quirky character to projects using motion. My experience with animation also include illustration, moodboards, storyboards and writing and adapting scripts.I’m often called upon for branding design, print editing, clothing and product label design. I enjoy working on design projects and helping clients make their products and services look beautiful.I’ve had a lot of experience editing (FCPX) raw footage and taking it through to the final video, creating title graphics, slides, factoids and 2D graphical animations for documentaries, recipes, promotions and campaigns.I’m at that level of experience (and age… cough!) where I’m put in charge of projects and small teams. Taking a clients brief from start to finish, planning the project, working on aspects of its completion and managing people to make sure things are kept on track and deadlines are met. I’m a natural troubleshooter and always on the lookout for how to make processes easier and outcomes quicker to achieve.I love to tell stories in interesting ways, change hearts and minds through informative and inspiring content and I enjoy bringing order to chaos by making complicated things simple.
