Hi, my name's Clayton, pleasure to share my bio! (claytonvickers.work)I'm a early career journalist that started by transitioning from a political science career — intended for a career in law or the legislature — to an amazing graduate school experience at the University of Missouri Journalism School in Columbia. In my two years as a graduate journalism student, I built my resume from the ground up for impactful political reporting. From the moment I decided I could take up the role of a journalist, I did so desiring to contribute to a restoration of trust for political reporting and the effect it can have. While taking data science, coding and investigative classes and serving with Investigative Reporters and Editors, I reported from the state legislature in Jefferson City, MO and wrote the strongest stories of 2023 for my university-affiliate paper, the Columbia Missourian. I took extra summer classes and volunteered for photography assignments, became an info-graphics desk specialist, and explored additional beats to open up my horizons. Truly, I tried to squeeze as much juice out of journalism school as possible, within reason. Fortunately, this led me to a White House Correspondent's Association scholarship for the Spring 2024 semester, and an incredible opportunity to intern with The Hill. To understate the experience, I was blown away most days, and wrote daily on Congress, SCOTUS, the Trump Trials and a plethora of topics politics and policy. The portfolio I accumulated at The Hill, especially project stories on AI in criminal justice and the SCOTUS bump stock case, have served me very well. I've now become a full-time antitrust reporter in D.C. with MLex Market Insights, and I couldn't be more excited. I'm now a D.C.-based journalist writing for an expert audience who need competent, insightful takes on complex legal issues. I plan to make the utmost use of my luck once again.
