Recreation Therapist
CurrentI was hired alongside a music therapist to open up recreation therapy to the behavioral health and the substance abuse units for adult patients. Since the recreation department has opened, the hospital rating increased based on the feedback of patients I had the pleasure of working with. This hospital has had their substance abuse programs for a while however in February they opened a residential program for substance abuse. With the new unit, I played a key role in developing the recreation program and implementing it to help create a successful rollout. In March after a year of construction, Ogden Regional opened the behavioral health unit for adults. I also played a role in starting the recreational program for this unit.My duties include:~ Assessing patients within 3 days of admitting. ~Creating a 2 week plan, but being flexible based on the needs of the patients. ~Implementing activities with a therapeutic purpose, as part of the activity we process what we have been doing~I make sure the Rec closet is clean and organized~Using spreadsheets I keep a detailed record of activities that I have done, the supplies needed for each activity I have planned, the goals of each patient I work with, and any improvements that could be made to the activity to increase its effectiveness.~After each group I record and chart the patients participation and behavior, as well as comments made in group to show not only the progress but any barriers that need to be addressed. ~I meet with the interdisciplinary team to discuss the patient, his or her barriers, and how to better address them, and the progress they have made towards the goals we have set.~If there is any free time if another department needs help like nurses admitting, I help with item checks.
