Technology & Research Consultant
CurrentI'm thrilled to start 2020 at Town School for Boys where I'm serving as Technology & Research Consultant in a great technology team surrounded by a curious and joyful faculty and staff community -- not to mention the young learners! I'm looking forward to helping grow the rich array of opportunities for engineering thinking and problem-solving here.
Dean (Priest, Pastor)
CurrentAs dean, I lead Holy Trinity Cathedral in worshipping God according to the Holy Scriptures and Holy Traditions of the Orthodox Christian Church, encouraging union with God and among the faithful, coordinating educational and charitable efforts, and ministering to the congregation and wider community.
Chancellor
CurrentAs Chancellor, I assist the Archbishop of the Diocese of the West, Orthodox Church in America, in a role akin to COO or chief of staff. It is a great honor to serve and help lead the clergy, monastics, and faithful of the 59 parishes and eight monasteries that make up our diocese in Montana, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, California, and Hawaii.
Adjunct Professor
CurrentI am honored to teach classes in the Educational Technology Program of the School of Education at University of San Francisco! This semester, I am teaching the course Digital Leadership Lab (ETK 602-01 Hybrid & ETK 602-50 Online). Digital technologies do not just open up opportunities; they also raise new problems and challenges. In this lab course, we explore how to efficiently and ethically establish an intentional digital presence within your learning environment and the wider professional community. We also explore how to teach our students similar, age-appropriate skills. Finally, we grapple with the systemic inequities that digital technologies can reveal as well as mediate. In May of 2017, I taught a seminar, "Coding for Educators" (ETK698-01). In this seminar we will consider how educators integrate coding into their classrooms. What are the benefits to students? How much of the coding movement is hype? What are the barriers to access and how can we overcome them as individual educators and in society? We will model how to teach and learn the kind of coding that will empower every educator to integrate coding into any subject area and a variety of learning goals. We will immerse ourselves in a number of engaging tools including Hopscotch, Scratch, different robots, Minecraft, and even languages that will push the most accelerated learners. The day-long format of each class session will allow us to learn, try, share, and reflect deeply on this expressive literacy. Students will leave this course ready to integrate and teach coding at age-appropriate fluency.
