Across my decade of self-study, university education, and language immersion experiences, I have studied Japanese religion, tea gatherings, history, aesthetics, and media in both professional settings and through hands-on experiences while visiting temples, shrines, tea houses, theaters, and historical sites. During the times I have lived on my own in Kyoto and with a host family in Yamaguchi Prefecture, I received direct training and mentorship from local historians, artisans, researchers, educators, and specialists in many traditional arts and practices, as well as contemporary issues relevant to modern Japanese society. I am interested in topics such as international security, diplomacy, and policy development, especially concerning environmental sustainability and pandemic outbreak response.In addition to Japanese language and culture, my main academic interests are policy development to support human and planetary health, including pandemic resilience and response as well as environmental protection and sustainability. I am interested in public health on a holistic level, with attention to the interconnected fields of sustainability, environmental studies, and social and economic inequality.At Stanford, I acquired my minor in Japanese-English Translation Studies, and I have lived in Kyoto as well as Yamaguchi prefecture in Japan. I especially love Japanese traditional theater and performance forms, such as Noh, Kabuki, and Bunraku.I passed the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (Level N3, www.jlpt.jp/e/about/message.html) in the 86th percentile in 2016. In 2018, I did a 6 week long homestay in Yamaguchi Prefecture where I attended both high school（山口県立宇部高等学校）and university（山口大学工学部）while visiting many temples, shrines, and historical sites. I have a strong passion for Japanese linguistics, religion, and politics.
