About Claire Bennett

I recently graduated from Macquarie University with a Bachelor of Arts (Major in Politics and International Relations) and Laws (Honours Class I). I am currently based in the Netherlands and am completing a Masters in Public International Law at Leiden University. I am proud and humbled to have represented Macquarie University at:- The Global Voices Study Tour on Sustainable Development (June-July 2014) - conducted a research paper on the impact of gender quotas on female political participation in Kenya and travelled to Nairobi to present my research to relevant stakeholders and participate in the UN Environment Assembly.- The G20 Youth Forum in Munich (May 2014) - Secretary General for the ‘Round Table’ on Humanities and Social Development; presented a paper on the politicisation of the Australian ‘History Wars’. - Macquarie University Youth Development Forum (Feb 2014) - discussed social development challenges and bilateral initiatives with delegates from Timor Leste. Last year, I undertook a Legal Internship at the Australian Human Rights Commission and completed my Honours thesis on the application of responsive regulation theory to Australian counter terrorism policy (High Distinction). I have a passion for social justice initiatives and diplomacy, particularly the value of a comprehensive education and youth empowerment. This is channelled through my voluntary Chairmanship of the Meriden Indigenous Bursary Committee and position as a Trustee. The Meriden Indigenous Bursary is an initiative dedicated to the financial support of Indigenous girls from the remote community of Ti Tree (NT), to facilitate their education at the school. Currently, we are privileged to have four Ti Tree girls undertaking study at Meriden. Prominent activists and politicians have expressed support for the Program including Mr Noel Pearson, The Hon. Bess Price MLA, Ms Karla Grant (SBS 'Living Black') and the Hon. Craig Laundy (Member for Reid).
