As a Teaching Assistant (TA) I utilize my knowledge of woodworking, craftsmanship, and engineering to assist students with complex projects. I help students with academic assignments that require use of the woodshop. My duties include facilitating the projects of students by guiding their building ventures, while also maintaining all of the machinery in the shop. In this role I ensure the safety of each student by supervising their builds, while also maintaining the integrity of the machinery. This role also allows me to connect students in need of other materials to the respective faculty members that will be able to provide further guidance.

Calca, Cusco, Peru

My experience working with the Andean Alliance for Sustainable Development was a multifaceted project that spanned over the course of seven months and two continents. In June of 2023, I travelled to Calca, Peru with a fellow group of Engineering Students from the University of St. Thomas. We were briefed on our project before leaving the United States and were tasked with designing, and then fabricating a coffee bean quality analyzer to be used in the Highlands of Peru. The goal of this project was to reduce the time required to preform quality checks on the coffee beans as well as to improve the quality of the beans by sending a summary report to the coffee farmers themselves. Upon returning to the United States after spending eight weeks in Peru and working closely with AASD and their coffee cooperative, we began fabrication. This project required the collaboration between myself, my team, our sponsor (AASD), and UST faculty. This multifaceted project required input from multiple engineering disciplines such as mechanical, computer, systems, and manufacturing. In December of 2023 we completed fabrication along with the compilation of our final report. This June, a new team of engineering students will return to Calca, bringing with them our finalized design which they will continue to modify and improve upon for future implementation.
