About Claire Carcara
I am a PhD student and Provost Fellow at the University of Southern California, pursuing further study in modern and contemporary art history alongside a graduate certificate in visual studies. My recent research has focused on notions of alternative exhibitions, bookmaking as a form of curation, archiving installation, site-specificity, and (non-traditional) materiality in the 1960s and ‘70s. In the spring of 2023, I graduated with my MA from the University of Chicago, having written a thesis entitled “Part Exhibition Catalogue, Part Artist’s Book: Categorizing the Artist’s Catalogue,” which reflects an ongoing preoccupation in exhibition histories and the distribution/dissemination of artwork. While at UChicago, I have worked on the exhibitions Monochrome Multitudes (Smart Museum of Art, 2022) and Calling on the Past (Smart Museum of Art, 2023) and held teaching positions in UChicago’s writing program and in conjunction with UChicago’s survey course in art history.I graduated in 2021 from Boston University summa cum laude, pre-law, and with honors in the major (History of Art & Architecture).
