I am currently employed as a Lecturer in the School of Education at The University of Southern Queensland in Toowoomba where I teach into the initial teacher training programs at both undergraduate and post graduate levels. Previously I have also taught with Education Queensland for 13 years gaining expertise in teaching primary school Arts and secondary school Music and Humanities. My commitment to striving for performance excellence is demonstrated in excellent annual professional development reviews which are testament to the high calibre and quality of my work as an educator. In 2019 I successfully completed a Doctor of Philosophy (education) through the Faculty of Education at Monash University which was supported with the Australian Government Research and Training Program scholarship (value of $100K). I also hold a Master of Education in leadership policy and change (Monash University, 2013). My research is situated at the intersections between music education, history of music performance, Arts audience development and psychology of listening. A hallmark of my work is the ability to bring these diverse disciplines together and synthesise original perspectives and approaches to doing research. I specialises in qualitative research using applied philosophy and phenomenology. I am currently contributing to research projects with regional community orchestras using creative Arts based methods to understand how Arts organisers consider pedagogy as part of didactic children’s concerts and how this translates to audience engagement through learning. Other research collaborations include work with Griffith University Queensland Medical Education group and Catholic Education Queensland.I have presented papers at distinguished conferences including the International Society for Music Education, the Australian and New Zealand Association for Research in Music Education, and The International Teaching Artists Conference. In addition to these contributions to the fields of pedagogy and teaching, research methodologies and methods, I have also served on governing committees for the Australian and New Zealand Association for Research in Music Education and the Monash Postgraduate Association, as well as being requested as a peer reviewer for academic journals and publishers.
