Profile bio

About Claire Hao

I am currently reporting on the Texas power grid, the clean energy transition and other electricity-related topics for the Houston Chronicle's business team. I started at the Houston Chronicle as part of the two-year Hearst fellowship. I spent my first year at the San Francisco Chronicle, where I wrote about a variety of topics on the climate & environment team. I've also written for the editorial board of The Washington Post as well as on the news desks at Bloomberg Law and The Chicago Tribune. I graduated from the University of Michigan in 2022, where I dedicated much of my time to my college newspaper The Michigan Daily.I strongly believe in the power of truth to reconstruct more just systems, and I seek to understand and uplift the stories of the people and communities around me in all that I do.
