Associate Scientist within Biomason's R&D Department

Isolating and culturing enviromental bacteria and fungi strains, assisting in performing and developing assays, performing cell counts, analyzing inorganic structures via RAMAN microscopy, mantaining specialized growth conditions for highly selective bacteria, and providing cell banks for three facilities.

Assisted in the Kaeser Lab researching oesophageal eosinophilia induced by an allergic response to egg proteins in pigs. Duties included caring for lab animals in line with the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, keeping a detailed record of symptoms, preparing media, and assisting in tissue sample collection and preservation

Created and conducted week-long lesson/activity plans for ages 5-15 based on wilderness skills, ecological stewardship, knowledge of local ecology, and wildlife biology. Led a team of 3-5 assistant counselors and CITs at a time while managing 15-20 campers. Activities included hikes, identifying tracks, scat, bird calls, and native/edible plants and fungi, radio tracking box turtles, setting trail cameras, catching and identifying freshwater invertabrates, whittling, fire making, arts and crafts activities, sing-alongs, and games of all kinds.Also volunteered with the animal outreach team, providing care and enrichment for reptiles, birds of prey, small mammals, and more, as well as educating the public on their conservation.
