From crafting my undergraduate honors thesis on same-sex partnered women who fought in the Easter Rising, to sharing my enthusiasm for museum exhibitions with guests, I love every second that I get to spend thinking and teaching about history, literature, and the arts. I have six years of experience with customer service under my belt, which has included a range of work environments -- including pet care, jewelry sales, and museum store associate. My year spent working as a peer tutor at the University of Washington and my time as editor for the Historical Review journal further allowed me to branch off from verbal communication and sales into the realm of written communication for academia. Through the Odegaard Writing and Research Center, I developed an approach to tutoring that is student-centered and flexible, with an emphasis on goal setting, collaboration, and helping students to develop writing strategies that will support long-term growth.As an aspiring academic, I highly valued the opportunity to participate in the Honors History program at the University of Washington. Beyond the training in historical methodologies and the chance to delve into an archival research project I was passionate about, I loved any chance to bounce ideas off of my peers and gain insight from experts in the field. In the future, I intend to continue my work on women, nationalism, and the Irish diaspora within the British Empire. I am committed to decolonizing and democratizing institutions of knowledge and I embrace applying feminist, anti-racist lenses to the practice of history.
