Editorial Design Lead At Creative Life

Norwich, England, United Kingdom

In April I officially joined Archant’s Creative Life agency. The agency develops creative solutions that produces powerful audience reactions to ensure that every penny invested in creatives makes a real difference to the client’s business. As part of the development of the agency a dedicated Editorial Design team was formed to provide bespoke commercial editorial design for external clients and across the Archant business. My role as Editorial Design Lead involves overseeing client editorial projects and ensuring the highest creative standards. We utilise a variety of visual narrative devices across a diverse range of media to guide the reader on a journey and engage and inspire the target audience.I regularly develop new designs working closely to the client’s brief and produce presentation documents with considered rationale to pitch directly to the client. Typography, grids, colour and layouts are all finely crafted. While working as Editorial Design Lead I have worked on a diverse range of projects such as a high-end luxury bookazine to commemorate the Queen’s jubilee and two sticker books following art trails around Norfolk and Suffolk, alongside many others.

In tandem with my team’s work on the Dialogue portfolio we also helped out across Archant titles and marketing. This culminated in the merger of the Pitch and Projects team with the Dialogue design team to form the multi-platform Client Design Services. Alongside the Group Art Director, I managed the CDS team of 13 multi-disciplined and talented designers. We worked across editorial design, branding, advertising, and marketing for a wide range of clients in a variety of sectors. I was responsible for pitching our team’s designs to internal and external clients. As well as the Dialogue clients we also worked on projects for Banham Zoo, Norwich Research Park, Rolex, Norwich City Football Club, Smart Paws, Aldiss and more. After the disbanding of CDS due to the creation of Creative Life, I oversaw a small team of designers helping on the large portfolio of Archant Life magazines (working on art directed features) and various special interest newsstand titles. This gave me direct experience of designing for newsstand and was a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment as we had over a dozen titles with monthly deadlines. For the Life titles I also worked on creatives for development of the apps and gave advice to the web development team as well helping to design landing pages for the Life titles.
