I work for Clan Childlaw as a trainee solicitor and project manager of the Rights in Justice project, which aims to improve legal advice and representation for children in conflict with the law, funded by The Promise Partnership. The need for this work was highlighted by a major report I produced in 2020, Rights Respecting? Scotland’s approach to children in conflict with the law - https://www.cycj.org.uk/news/rights-respecting/. This report focused on ensuring that Scotland’s approach to children in conflict with the law respects rights and is compliant with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). In 2022 I delivered the annual Kilbrandon Lecture based on this work - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNjI0PYnOlQ. I was the Director of the Children and Young People's Centre for Justice (CYCJ) from 2013-2021 and led work to improve children’s lives through better policy, practice, participation and research. I have experience of leadership, strategic development, project and programme management, securing funding, training design and delivery, policy development, research and knowledge exchange. I have previously worked in and with social services, academia, the third sector, Scottish Government and local government. I have a PhD in policy making and devolution, an LLB (Ord), a BA in Politics and a Diploma in Professional Legal Practice.
