I have worked in the Social Care Sector and Voluntary Community Sector in some form or another over the past twenty two years. After leaving school I deferred my college place for one year and completed a year long Computer and Applications course in which I did a few months work experience in administration within the Health Service Executive and Governments Offices in Sligo. I then began an Honors Degree in Applied Social Studies in Social Care. Within this degree i had three work placements, in my first year I worked within a mental health support Centre after which I gave presentations to degree year students on the placement as this was a new concept. In second year i worked with children from the travelling community within a primary school, i supported them through their education. In third year I worked with children with disabilities within a residential Centre. Whilst studying I had part time job as an administrative assistant within a community development project where I travelled to Scotland to a similar project to swap ideas. I worked part time as an autism support worker one to one with a child with severe autism and I also worked part time in a residential Centre for adults with severe disability. I spent one summer whilst studying working with children within a childcare facility, here I met Mary McAleese as she was visiting cross border initiatives. Around this time I assisted in teaching drama classes to children two evenings a week. I graduated in 2005 and began to work as a support worker to children with disabilities within a further education college. I spent two years there and then spent two year supporting a student with an acquired brain injury in secondary education. During these four years I worked part time as a care worker covering twilight shifts and summer holiday cover. In 2009 I became coordinator of Shopmobility. As Coordinator I ensure the efficient and sustainable running of Shopmobility in line with an agreed budget and apply appropriate corporate governance systems to manage the organization. I identify and propose new opportunities for Shopmobility which complement and strengthen the established services and provide for future development in line with our corporate strategic priorities. I lead the development of our annual strategic plan annually in partnership with the board of trustees and direct our work activities for the coming year. I review and update all policies and procedures annually.
