Through Loyola’s dietetic internship, I completed my clinical rotation at University of Chicago. Within in this program, I completed rigorous specialty rotations including: General Medicine, Gastrointestinal with parenteral nutrition, Neurology, Oncology, Transplant, Medical ICU and Surgical ICU. I completed education in accordance with each of these areas of dietetics. I charted using EPIC and became highly proficient in this system. In addition, I conducted a nurse education in service and created journal club continuing education material.

As a dietetic intern at VeggieRx, a produce distribution program that offers Maywood residents locally grown produce and nutrition education, I combatted food insecurity and became aware of the social determinants of health. I helped distribute produce bags and assisted in registering qualified individuals for SNAP. I also created recipes for the participants, lead cooking demonstrations and educated participants on different nutrition topics. I promoted a sense of community among the participants which lead to social connections and support. I was chosen to advocate this program by my preceptor at the Pri-Med conference.

As a dietetic intern at Proviso East High School, I promoted healthy eating habits to the students and helped run the school “lunch bunch” program. Through this program, I created a week of diverse lunches that adhered to the National School Lunch Program standards and created a lesson plan outlining a plant based diet. In addition, I designed and presented a low salt and sodium lecture during the schools health class. This strengthened my leadership skills and ability to create meaningful dialogue.

I was hired into the Nursing Resource Team (NRT) in March of 2017. Each shift I was assigned to a different medical unit of the hospital. Beaumont Health System has over 30 units containing patients of different ages and needs. I had to adapt to a different unit each shift. This required me to quickly become acquainted with the nursing staff on that floor and change my plan of care for the new patients. This demanded a great deal of flexibility. I treated all of the patients I am working with compassionate care. I was commended for my compassionate care on the pediatric unit of the emergency center. A nurse on the floor nominated me for the "Daisy Award" which awards employees for their excellent and compassionate care. I also frequently interacted with the registered dietitians about my patients intakes. This allowed me exposure to a dietitian in a clinical setting.

Mrs. Kelleher selected me as her undergraduate learning assistant for her community nutrition course. She made this selection based off my leadership and communication skills. In this position I strengthened my teaching skills by assisting in classroom and lab instruction. I also held office hours and was an accepting presence for students to ask for help.

As a dietary aide, I assisted in the service of meals to the residence. I assured the proper temperature and sanitation of the food being delivered. While delivering the trays, I communicated and developed relationships with the residents.
