I started out as a Sunday Times journalist and later became a magazine and newspaper editor (in roles at the Mail on Sunday, Daily Mail, City AM in London, and Metro International all over the world), before leading a team as the CEO of a London-based content marketing agency.I really like telling other people’s stories – I really don’t like telling my own. So, here are a few things about my work.As a journalist I specialised in business, city, and personal finance (and was an award-winning Venture Capital Journalist of the Year), with a splash of style and a big helping of news thrown in. Journalism prepares you for everything; thinking like a journalist infuses all the multimedia work I deliver for clients. I’ve written speeches for FTSE100 CEOs, and authored books on finance, the built environment, and entrepreneurial women. I have lost count of the number of newspapers, magazines, reports, content campaigns and programmes, and websites that I have launched for organisations big and small. Doing it well requires a mix of entrepreneurialism, tenacity, confidence in your own abilities – and a team with shared goals working alongside you. I’ve led global teams, national teams, and local city teams. There is nothing better than a brilliant editorial and creative team that works well. Winning awards tells that story – winning great friendships tells it better. Today, I work with brilliantly talented writers, graphic designers, film makers, web builders and SEO experts. In turn, we work with c-suites, communication, brand, and marketing teams to help them and their organisations make sense of their big ideas and communicate them effectively across all channels with their audiences. No topics are off limits, but sustainability, impact, and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) is a rich seam that runs through almost everything. Inside – and out of work – I am a big believer that it doesn’t matter how well-known your brand is, or how busy you or your executive team might be, everything is improved and better understood through a conversation. So, it’s always best to take the time to have one.
