The goal of this project is to understand how TAOK3 would participate in inflammaging by potentially altering cytokine production and differentiation of macrophages>Silenced or overexpressed TAOK3 in HEK293 and THP-1 cells using siRNA or plasmids; performed Flow Cytometry, Western Blot, ELISA on various stages of macrophages obtained from mice when TAOK3 is either deleted or inhibited>Found that TAOK3 negatively modulates inflammaging in macrophages by limiting the pro-inflammatory responses>Published the corresponding manuscript "TAOK3 limits age-associated inflammation by negativelymodulating macrophage differentiation and their production of TNFα" and gave a poster presentation (Poster Presentation Award)

>Prepared course materials in English speaking, reading, listening, and writing.>Provided constructive feedback to students' performance and advised students on future careers>Opened 1-to-1 English (IELTS) and science tutoring sessions for 3 students. One of the studentsachieved 1 score higher in 1 month in the speaking section.

The goal of this project is to explore the effects of DNA Methyltransferase HsdM on M. bovis BCG under hypoxic conditions by looking at how this enzyme would affect intrinsic antibiotic susceptibility and survival by interfering with gene expression.>Carried out the vector construction using restriction enzymes and validated results using PCR; >Cultured bacteria and performed mini-prep to obtain the desired plasmid; conducted proteinpurification and crystallization optimization.>Contributed to the publication of the paper, “The Mycobacterial DNA Methyltransferase HsdMDecreases Intrinsic Isoniazid Susceptibility”.
