I worked as project manager and principal research scientist for several projects including the Halden HTO Project on "Human Performance in Operation of Small Modular Reactors", as well as Business Developer for SMRs at IFE. I was also a member of the OECD NEA Expert Group on Small Modular Reactors during this time. In addition, I wrote several applications for research funding as well as scientific publications for international conferences.

My primary research interests included human-automation interaction, human performance and reliability in technologically advanced environments, and the ethical use of artificial intelligence in society.

The department was established in 2018 after a reorganization of the Halden research sector. As manager of this new department, I was responsible for setting the research direction, establishing and managing the department economy, managing the department’s research portfolio, and growing the department. During my time as manager, the department grew in size from 7 to 15 people and turned a profit each year. We built a strong research focus on exploring the interaction and teaming between humans and advanced technologies, including robotics, especially in highly digital and/or complex environments. We founded the Humans & Automation Laboratory (HA-Lab) as a physical space for multidisciplinary research, and which includes the Halden Aerospace Lab (HAL). Once the department was well-established, I decided to step back into my role as a Senior Research Scientist so that I could continue to focus on my research work and support the ongoing success of the HA department from within. Based at Barnwood in Gloucester, providing Human Factors and human reliability analysis support to nuclear safety cases, as well as conducting HF assessments at existing nuclear sites and providing HF input to event investigations.
